Shopping Safely Online in 2011

Online Shopping has increased tremendously over the past few years. If you're one of those shoppers who has turned to online shopping and find yourself shopping online more often, you're part of a growing trend of savvy consumers.

Online shopping is great because you can avoid those crowds and noise of the shopping mall and shop from the comfort of your home at your convenience, among many other benefits.

With the Christmas and Holiday shopping for 2011 well underway, I thought it was important to highlight this important aspect of online shopping so you can take precautions to safely shop online.

When shopping online make sure to use reputable and secure websites. Websites that use HTTPS vs HTTP in their browser web address, are more secure. The reason being websites that use HTPPS, use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to safely transmit your online data from one place to another in an encrypted format.

Use a good internet security software, like Norton 360, to secure your computers as well as your browsers which help protect your computer and data from harmful viruses, internet threats and identify theft.

Use passwords that are difficult to crack and avoid using words and numbers that easily relate to you like your pet's name, date of birth, etc. A good password uses a combination of letters, numbers as well as upper and lower case characters.

I discuss all the above points and more, in more detail on this Online Shopping Safety Tips Squidoo web page, as well as, help if your data or identify has been compromised online. Stay safe and have a wonderful online shopping experience...happy shopping!
