As summer starts to wind down, the reality of back-to-school, in September 2013, begins to set in. If you’re a parent or a student looking for back-to-school deals on laptops, Amazon has a variety of laptops on sale to suit your computing needs for school.
When buying laptops, there are many considerations to take into account and I will walk you through some of the key features that you need to look for when choosing a laptop for school.
When buying laptops, here are some of the main specifications you should be looking for:
Screen Size: you will get laptops with screens as small as 13.3 inches and as large as 17 inches. It depends what you will be using it for. Obviously, the smaller screen sized laptops are much more portable. However, if you’re one who uses their laptop to watch TV and movies, you may want to go for a larger sized one.
Operating System: most newer laptops now, come with Windows 8, but you do have the some that still ship with Windows 7. It’s best to go with a Windows 8 laptops because some of the laptops can be used as tablets and Windows 8 operating system offers touch-screen capability.
Processor: Windows laptops comes with Intel or AMD processors, both are good companies, but I personally prefer Intel. The other aspect is to check is what type of processors are used in the laptop. The ones you see commonly are Intel Core i3, i5 and i7. The price of the laptop will vary depending on the type of processor. If possible and if you can afford it, go for the i5 or i7 because it has faster processing speed.
Hard Drive: storage space on laptop is measured in GB (gigabytes). Most laptops nowadays come with hard drive capacities starting with 500 GB and up. The more the hard drive space, the costlier the laptop. If you’re one who stores a lot of multimedia files, like pictures and videos, on your laptop, you will need one with more storage space.
RAM: or Random Access Memory is the temporary memory that the computer uses to run applications that are running on your laptop like your internet browser, MS Office applications, etc. Most laptops today come with a minimum of 4GB and upwards. The more RAM means applications can run faster and this in general helps when multitasking and having multiple applications open simultaneously. The more RAM on a laptop, the more it will cost. Generally, 4 GB to 6 GB will suffice for most regular users.
Others Features: you may want to look for additional features on a laptop like the number of USB ports, its battery life, whether the laptop comes with a DVD drive, etc. These will depend on what you use your laptop for.
Amazon has a wide range of laptops from reputable companies ASUS, HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, Acer, and Dell, . On many of the laptops, you can save up to $200.
